High Plains Dreamer by James Johnson
Fabricated by Tyler Johnson
High Plains Dreamer was installed on Friday, November 30, 2018 in the new roundabout located at the intersection of N. Boyd Lake and Mountain Lion Drive, just south of Highway 34. This monolithic Cor-ten sculpture, measures 20’ tall x 16’ long x 6’ wide and weighs approximately 5,000 lbs. This latest addition to the City’s public art collection creates a significant presence along the Highway 34 corridor.
In February 2018, James Johnson was awarded the sculpture commission from a field of 169 applicants. Designed by James, the sculpture was fabricated by the artist’s son, Tyler Johnson. Following the 6-month fabrication phase, High Plains Dreamer was transported from Illinois to Colorado during the last week of November. A local construction company was hired by the artist to complete this much-anticipated installation. A formal dedication will be held in the spring of 2019.
